Elementary
So Lucy Liu is apparently being cast as Watson in CBS’s attempt at modern!Sherlock Holmes.
On the one hand, this feels like a attempt to make the sexual tension that inevitably shows up between Holmeses and Watsons okay for a Neurotic and Hysterical (“Shit, think of the children! You can’t have gays on prime time!”) American audience. That’s just what it feels like. Obviously, I don’t know if that’s how it’ll really be because the pilot isn’t even close to being out yet. So, I’m side-eyeing, but still holding my opinion.
ON THE OTHER HAND, I will LOL so hard if the sexual tension is equal to BBC Sherlock’s, and Lucy Liu Watson is just as aggravated by it as Martin Freeman Watson. If we’re given a female lead who has great chemistry with a male lead, and they never get together. Not once. During the whole series? I will be proud. I will be shocked and proud. Because I can’t think of an American show that’s done that with any female lead.
